Fukuoka Hotels Guide: Where to Stay in the Vibrant Heart of Kyushu

Fukuoka City is the largest city in the Kyushu region, formed by the merger of Fukuoka in the west and Hakata in the east. The name “Fukuoka City” was adopted, but the name “Hakata” has not disappeared. Fukuoka’s largest station is located in the eastern part of Hakata and is named Hakata Station, not Fukuoka.

For travelers, staying in hotels around Hakata Station and Tenjin is most convenient. These two places were originally the centers of Fukuoka and Hakata, respectively. Some people also choose to stay in Nakasu, the center of Fukuoka’s nightlife.

If you have purchased the JR Kyushu Pass or Sanyo San’in Northern Kyushu Pass and mainly use JR trains to travel around Kyushu, staying near Hakata Station will make travel more convenient.

For those who have purchased the SunQ Pass and wish to explore Kyushu by high-speed bus, or mainly visit Fukuoka city and nearby attractions like Dazaifu Tenmangu and Yanagawa, staying in Tenjin, the city area, is a good choice. It’s connected by Nishitetsu private railway to Tenjin, Dazaifu, and Yanagawa.
