Sanzen-in Temple

Sanzen-in Temple is a tranquil Tendai sect temple in Ohara, about 1 hour from Kyoto’s city center. Known for its moss-covered Shuheki-en Garden and charming warabe jizo statues, the temple offers a peaceful retreat. Highlights include Ojo Gokuraku-in Hall, which enshrines an Amida Nyorai statue, and stunning seasonal gardens.

Public Transportation:

  • Route 1: From Kyoto Station, take the Kyoto Bus No.17 to Ohara Bus Stop (about 90 minutes). Buses run approximately three times an hour. Alternatively, you can also board Bus No. 17 from Kawaramachi, which takes around 65 minutes to reach Ohara.
  • Route 2: Take the subway from Kyoto Station to Kokusaikaikan Station (International Conference Center), then a 15-minute taxi ride to Ohara. This is the fastest option, taking around 45 minutes.

From Ohara Bus Stop, walk approximately 10 minutes.
